AIR DRUMMING FROM THE HEART
Joining the ranks of activities that blur the line between sport and game--bowling, ping-pong, miniature golf--is air drumming, a thriving subculture documented prodigiously on YouTube and now the subject of a new comic film, "Adventures of Power".
Ari Gold, an indie filmmaker and the star of "Power", discovered his talent for drumming without drums by accident. He entered the legendary US Air Guitar Competition in Hollywood and, on a whim, decided to play the drums instead. He was subsequently disqualified from winning first place, but turned his experience, as it were, into "Adventures of Power", which debuted at Sundance and hits select cinemas on October 9th.
What might have been a strictly-for-dudes comedy is in fact a sweet tale of persistence and self-discovery. Gold plays Power, the son of a miner (Michael McKean), who treks across country to study under a master air drummer. While bunking in the storage room of a Chinese restaurant, he finds love with the cute deaf girl who lives upstairs (Shoshannah Stern). If the rest of the world lags in appreciating Power's soundless talent, Annie is able to divine the inspiration that guides his ever-restless hands. There is sincerity within all this absurdity. It's even romantic.

quote It's often seemed to me that Shakespeare might well have been a simply brilliant editor as well as a beyond-extraordinary writer
