FROM THE FIFTIES, WITH BRASS
When we think of early rock’n’roll, we think of men: Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, above all Elvis. But there were women too, and at 73 Wanda Jackson, the so-called Queen of Rockabilly, has become the latest protegé of Jack White, tireless leader of the White Stripes, the Raconteurs and The Dead Weather.
Jackson’s album “The Party Ain’t Over”, produced by White, is a lot of fun: big, brassy takes of some old chestnuts (one from 1930), plus one of Bob Dylan’s better recent songs, the Berry-ish “Thunder on the Mountain”, and Amy Winehouse’s show-stopper “You Know I’m No Good”. A blast.
The Party Ain’t Over Released January 24th; in America, January 25th

quote It's often seemed to me that Shakespeare might well have been a simply brilliant editor as well as a beyond-extraordinary writer
