Life. Culture. Style. Intelligent Life is a quarterly magazine from The Economist. With its spirited writing and evocative photography, Intelligent Life is food for the brain and a feast for the eyes. Intelligent Life began as an annual magazine, published in the summer of 2004. After three annual editions, it went quarterly in autumn 2007.
Q. What is Intelligent Life's relationship to The Economist?
It is a sister magazine. The two titles have certain key attributes in common--both are intelligent, independent, opinionated, analytical and entertaining. Both are British publications with a global outlook and a sharp turn of phrase. But they differ in other respects. The Economist is a newspaper, Intelligent Life a magazine. The Economist largely covers news and current affairs, politics and economics, whereas Intelligent Life concentrates on life away from work--from food and wine to fashion, travel, philanthropy, the arts and general-interest features. Intelligent Life has bylines (writers' names on articles) and uses a mixture of Economist staff and guest writers. It has its own design, with a luxurious look and feel, large pages, thick paper and spectacular use of photography. Intelligent Life has its own editor, Tim de Lisle, and a small dedicated staff. The editorial director is Edward Carr, business editor of The Economist and former editor of Intelligent Life, and the editor-in-chief is John Micklethwait, editor of The Economist.
Q. Is Intelligent Life aimed at men or women?
Both. It is aimed at readers who are curious, have wide interests, and enjoy good writing, photography and design.
